I have recently been contemplating starting a new hobby of creating my own website. This would give me complete control of what I were to include and allow me to share some of my thoughts with the rest of the world. For several years, the reason I have not done this is the costs. Now, using one of the many free web hosts could be a solution to this problem. A quick internet search for ‘free web hosts’ found over 10 million results, so finding myself one of these free web hosts is not difficult. After checking out a few of these sites, I found that free web hosts require that you include certain advertisements on your sites, which is how free web hosts generate their revenue. For many personal websites, there is no harm in having a few banners on your site. However, for those looking for a more professional feel, the ads from free web hosts can greatly hurt the credibility of the website.
One of the possible reasons for me to create a website would be to use it as an online resume that would help my job application stand out to potential employers. Since I am currently employed, the idea of paying to have an online resume would be a waste of money unless I used one of many possible free web hosts. Unfortunately, having pop up ads on a resume would certainly detract from the professional look I would hope to achieve. I realize that this specific problem is fairly unique to my situation. Perhaps if I am in a position where I am actively seeking employment I will pass on the free web hosts and spend some money to avoid the ads. Free web hosts continue to offer thousands of people the opportunity to pursue a project without having to invest any money.
